Hi everyone,

We have had our throughbred off the track for about 4 mths now. He came to us quiet lean and we are having trouble fattening him up. He is 8 yrs old, 16.2 hh, is rugged but not stabled, has access to 15 acres of average forage material. He gets a biscuit of lucern a day along with 2 scoops of white chaff, 1/2 scoop of soaked horse grain mix, 1/2 scoop of cooked barley, 1/2 scoop of rice bran, molassas, tbs seaweed, tbs dolamite 1/2 ts blue stone.. What more can i do for this boy. Can anyone please help me. I am a little worried about the rice bran as i have read that the phosphate level is very high compared to the calcium level?

  1. You might want to repost this in the horse section. You will probably get more responces. I cant help much sorry!

  2. If you're worried about the rice bran, possibly give him less or slowly take it out of his diet all together if it isn't important. But as for the fattening up, try a product called Millrun, I've heard it does the job. But  you have to add water to it! Good Luck!
