I recently obtained a second hand mac computer. I would like to take the hard drive from the Mac and put in it my PC as a second hard drive. From what I have been able to find out it might be possible if I have MacDrive on the PC. Or do I even need this?

  1. - Or you need to extract the data from Mac to PC?  You'll need USB 2.0 to IDE adapter.

  2. Mac OS uses a different file system then the PC. Though the hardware might be compatible, windows wont be able to read it. You'll have to format it.

  3. No, you do not need a "macdrive".

All you need to do is partition it in a windows friendly file system. Since most Macs use HFS, which is not windows compatible, you would have to delete the partition on the Mac, which is easier than doing it on a PC, then transfer the drive to the PC and repartition and format the drive.

  4. why would you do this when drives are so cheap?  put in in an external enclosure reformat it and it should work.
