Question:

Putting a light on a dirtbike? (headlight)

i have an old 84' kx 125, i like to ride at some later times of the day but being a standard dirtbike it has no lights, is it in anyway possible to wire up/connect a trail bike front light the way the bike is? it doesnt have a battery or altinator so could i at all run it off the engine?

if so how could i do it?

  1. I would check out your ignition.  I don't have a lot of experience with trail bikes, but motorcycles will have an accessory lead on the ignition.  You just have to wire it to that.  Then, somewhere in the negative wire, attach a switch.  The negative will go to some ground on the bike.  Also, you need to make sure the accessory lead has the right voltage.  Most headlights will be 12V or 6V.  As far as no battery or alternator, your bike has a generator.  It works like an alternator.  The generator will power the light.
