  1. The LINX website is free and gives step by step...

No one can tell you more without you telling more about the specs on the hardeware.

  2. you must specify the error to detect the problem>>>> so please more details so we can help you< does the xp recognize the hard disk?, problem ( file can't be copied), etc

  3. start again from the begenning. restart your laptop. press f10 or f8. to open the bios set up. change the boot sequence to cd or dvd. then restart again. follow the instruction

  4. In some cases the hard drive configuration can be the issue.

Check the hard drive configuration to see if it is set for "cable select" vs "master" vs "slave" configuration.  There are jumpers that you set to configure this - as is illustrated on the hard drive.

I assume there is only 1 hard drive.  Have it plugged into the IDE cable end and select "cable select".  This may resolve the mater.

This assumes the hard drive is not a Serial ATA or SATA type.

  5. Had the same problem. XP pro is better. Two possible solutions; 1st, install DOS, then Win 98, then install XP Home, replacing Win 98. XP Home will allow 30 days to verify by internet, and you only get 3 uses. XP Pro is unlimited. 2nd, format HD with DOS, Install System files and driver for CD ROM. This allows CD ROM to access XP disk. Install XP. This may require partitioning the HD so you can have DOS and system files on one drive, while formatting the rest with XP (logical drives)

  6. You must purchase a licence to use Windows on a new machine -  in most cases you can't use the licence from another machine.

Here is a link to Windows XP Pro Full that can be installed onto brand new hardware:

    http://www.ecostsoftware.com/uk/shop/pc/...

You then simply boot from the media provided and follow the on-screen instructions.

  7. try deleting the partition and creating a new one there really isn't any thing that you can do wrong and the first person is only right if you XP home disk is a OEM. if its not an OEM disk then you can install it on another PC but you have to take it off the old PC cause the license is only good for 1 PC legally and reguardless of it being an OEM disk it would still work
