Question:

Putting files back onto a computer?

I made a back up disk of all my personal files before my computer crashed. Now I have the computer back in its original state and I wish to re-instal the files I backed up onto the disk (pictures, music, etc). I am using Windows Vista Home Premium. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance!

  1. How did you do the backup?  Did you use the Vista backup utility or did you just copy your files?

If you copied them, then you just copy them back into the appropriate folders.

If you used the backup utility, you go to the Backup and Restore Center.  Restore Files

Choose Advanced Restore, Files from a different computer.  You should be able to go along from there.

Time has passed and I saw your updates...

Since you used Roxio, I'm hoping you finalized the disc and maybe it's just autorun that isn't set right.

Put your disc in.  Let it spin up.  Open Computer and see if your disc is showing in the drive.  If so, right click on the drive and choose explore.  See if you can see your files.

If the disc doesn't show in the drive, or the files don't show, I'm concerned that you never finalized the session.  Take the disc out.  Try opening Roxio, go to Tools, and select Disc and Device Utility.  It should recognize the drive.  Then insert the disc.  If it says that the session is still open, highlight it and click the finalized session button.
