Is this receiver able to have an amplifier plugged into it with a subwoofer in the amplifier

yes. look at the description where it says number of preamp outputs. this head unit has 2 so you can connect up to two amps with this head unit

i hope that was just a typo when you said "with a subwoofer IN the amplifier"

yes it can, The unit has both front and rear/sub switchable pre-amp outputs. thats where you would connect the rca cable from your amp to your stereo.

This model has two pre amp outputs.  You should be able to connect an amp and then a sub.  It does not have an input for an amp.  But that isn't how you should connect it anyway.
