Putting in a shut off valve in my gas line to my gas dryer.?

The lead gas line runs along the wall towards the dryer and stops about 5 feet short of the dryer. Right now I have a flex line going from there to the dryer. I've been told I have to have a shut off valve for the dryer. Do I have to cut the gas line and put the shutoff 6 inches from the end of the lead line, or can I disconnect the flex line and put the shutoff between the lead line and the flex?

  1. you have to put it before the flex line

  2. I think Pepto Bismol or Mylanta does the trick

  3. Turn the gas off and install the shutoff valve between the gas line and flex connector.  Most installations also require a drip leg which is a tee, a short nipple with a cap to catch any debris that might be traveling in the line.  This is supposed to catch the debris before it enters the gas valve.  Either/or installed before the flex connector.

  4. I would disconnect the flexline, install the valve and reconnect.

  5. It is not a lead line it is steel pipe and it should be BLACK in color. The code says that you have to have somethings in the installation.

    1. If there is a vertical run of pipe there has to be a trap at the bottom. This most often done with a tee. There should be a tee at the  bottom of the run and the part that would continue down is capped off and the rest of the tee acts like an elbow. \

    2. You put the shut off on the end of the black pipe and then put the flex line on that shut off.

    3. Use a shut off that is rated for gas.

    3. Use pipe dope that is rated for gas.

    4. Check for leaks with soapy water

    5. Code says that you have to replace the flex line every time that you unhook it.
