Putting problem taking golfers down! Can it be overcome?
It is normally seen that most of the professional golf players face hurdles while scoring at different tournaments, due largely to putting problem.
Putting was a very common issue in recent months. There are many reasons behind devastating performances, as bad putting keeps golfers in trouble on the course.
A player can lose his leading position in a tournament, if he does not improve his putting. It is hard to be on the top for four straight days. In order to win, improved and effective putting is crucial.
On the top, Lee Westwood is a great example, who has faced many defeats, due to poor putting. After winning the Nedbank Golf Challenge in 2011, he shared his views about his putting.
“My putting has not been as good as I would have liked,” he added. “Proof of that was at the Nedbank - a week where I putt and hole my fair share and I'm leading by seven going into the final round”.
“If I have a week where I just putt okay, I have a chance of winning. And if I have a week where I don't putt very well at all, it seems like I finish tenth to 20th”.
He added, “That really shows the level where my game is at. I just want to putt better, more often really. That's what I'm working on at the moment and it seems to be improving”.
Like Westwood, many other players also face the same putting problem. As a cure, I am revealing the some tricks and steps, by which, putting can be improved easily.
The most important thing is to play an original game, and not to follow some other players’ swing style.
A player only has to follow his own putting or swing style, which he/she has practised since the beginning. If one copies the others, then they are likely to lose focus and their putting tends to go from poor to poorest.
Another mistake golfers make is the lack of follow through. When a player tries to be extra smart on the fairways or he uses his club short, the ball tends to land away from the hole.
To improve this, one has to follow a decent angle putting shot, so that the ball gets more pace and reaches near the hole.
The third mistake, which is the most common, is peeking. When a player tries to cover more distance, he/she lifts the ball so high and the ball loses the desired landing target, due to high wind pressures.
To overcome this problem, I suggest that one should observe the wind pressure first and then hit the ball as low as he can. The higher the ball goes, the more it will be affected by the winds.
The biggest problem is grim putting on the greens. Most of the payers are unable to judge the distance of the hole, and they are also unable to putt the ball at a perfect speed.
In that case, the ball moves faster or slower, depending on the putting power, and misses the hole mostly.
This problem can only be countered by practising. If a player judges the distance, green speed, grass structure and flow of the ball correctly, then his putt can be successful on the greens also.
These are some of the basic and major problems faced by the players in their careers. If these issues are fixed, then one can impress others by making their career more successful.
