Putting ring tones on to Nokia 6300?

I've recently bought a new Nokia 6300, but I am unable to set some of my songs that I have transferred to the phone, as a ringtune. I believed that the size might have been the problem, so I cut the song down to the same size (and even a bit less) than the ringtunes that the phone came with; however, the problem was still there.

yes the size is the problem. Not all phones allow using 3 MB files as ringtones. You need to crop it. The best and easiest place is a site called VENTONES. its free

you can upload the mp3 file and crop it right on their site. Then just download the file when done or have them text it to you if you are in one of their allowed carriers. If you sign up as unknown you will have to download and transfer the file with a cable. But it seems that you know how to do that already.
