Question:

Putting stuffed animals in the dishwasher?

My son has a bunny that he loves to go to sleep with, but now it's so incredibly dirty that it needs to be washed. The tag says it can be washed but my biggest fear is opening up the washing machine lid and finding stuffing everywhere. My mom suggested putting it in the dishwasher (without the dirty dishes :) on the top rack. She used to wash my dad's golf hats like that, they came out clean with no problems. Has anyone tried this and did it work? I even thought of buying another bunny first and then wash his old one so I have a spare in case something happens to the first one when I wash it. Any suggestions on how to get it clean?

  1. I put my kids stuffed animals in the laundry machine on delicate or hand wash cycle, then dry them in dryer. The only stuffed toys you can't put in washer are the once that have batteries and electronics in them and the once that have very fine hair because they get ruined.

  2. Put it in a pillow case and wash it on gentle in the washing machine.

  3. Well I believe putting it in the washer wouldn't hurt it. But if your that nervous about it, try hand washing it. Also you should wash all of his stuffed animals before you give it to him even if you just bought it. I guarantee you it had germs on it when you bought it.....

  4. DON"T put it in the dishwasher!  The residual dishwashing soap could be very irritating to the baby.

  5. I don't think I would put it in the washing machine. Although it cleans itself with hot water and soap every cycle, to me it seems like it would be a bacteria trap with all the food leftovers that go through it. If I were you I would put it in a mesh bag or pillow case and put it in the washing machine. I've done this with stuffed animals before and they've always come out well! Good luck!

  6. I have never heard of that.  I would put it in a pillow case or something to wash it.  Or just hand wash it and toss it in the dryer on gentle.

  7. Hand wash it? Warm water and laundry detergent?
