Putting videos from camcorder to pc?

Question

how can i get my pc to playback my videos from my camcorder... I have media player but it only plays back the sound.. What am i doing wrong... Im a real novice at this and a lot of the pc jargon goes right over my head.. would be very grateful if anyone knows how, ive been trying for months...!

I'm assuming you have a minidv camcorder and you are using the supplied USB cord.

If you have a mini dv (cassette) camcorder….

Your dv camcorder needs a firewire connection (ieee 1394) in order to download video, your PC probably did not come with a firewire port, so you will have to buy one and install it, since most computers (except possibly brand new) don't come with a firewire port, your camcorder did not come with a firewire cord so you have to purchase a cord too. Your camcorder did come with a USB cord and that is used for downloading stills from your camcorder. Make sure your camera is in playback mode.

try installing this codec

Have you transfered any  camcorder footage to your HD

have you got a DV out socket on your camcorder
