The experienced Spanish defender has injured his left knee on his first match after recovering from a fractured jaw. As a result, it is highly probable that he will miss El Clasico.
Barcelona’s defender had to miss out on serving his country in the qualifying matches for the FIFA World Cup due to a fracture on his cheekbone, however, he was fit enough to play for http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Barcelona-c38604 in their match against Getafe.
Puyol suffered a knee injury and had to get substituted in the second half of the match due to a hard challenge on Barrada.
The Catalan captain was able to make it off the pitch himself, and even received a comforting ovation from the opposing team’s fans.
After further examination it was revealed that Puyol had strained his posterior cruciate ligament, and thus it was decided by the team’s medical services that the captain would have to take some time off again for another four to six weeks.
As a result of this injury it is being asumed that Puyol would have to skip El Clasico, a fixture which is considered to be of the highest priority for Barcelona and Real Madrid.
This is defintely not Puyol’s luckiest season, as he has already suffered a fractured cheekbone, which ruled him out of Spain’s FIFA World Cup Qualifying match against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Georgia-c2903 last week.
The experienced defender was only able to play the Getafe match – his first match since he fractured his cheekbone- if he was to wear a protective mask.
However, it seems as though his protective mask could not keep him completely safe, and as a result he picked up an injury on his left knee.
If he does miss the match against Real Madrid, it is going to be a huge set-back for the Catalans who will need the support of their captain in their most tense match of the season.
However, despite the sad event of their captain getting injured, the Catalonian club was able to win their fourth consecutive match in La Liga this season and have shown that they are ready for any and every match heading their way.
