The Barcelona club captain has been having a lot of bad luck as he will be sidelined for up to eight weeks, as revealed by the club’s doctors.
The Spanish giants, who are currently leading the Spanish La Liga points table with six wins out of six, are in all sorts of troubles as both their first-choice defenders, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Gerard-c14664 Pique and Carles Puyol, are out injured.
While Gerard Pique limbed out because of an ankle injury, a horrific fall saw Carles Puyol dislocating his elbow.
The injury picked up by the Spaniard was simply dreadful and many thought that he will be out of action for the rest of the season.
However, the Barcelona club doctors have made sure that their club captain is not out of action for a long time and returns to the first-team as early as possible.
Carles Puyol picked up a knee injury right at the end of last season and after going through a surgery, he made his comeback right at the start of the current season.
That injury kept the Spaniard out of action throughout the summer which means that he missed the successful Euro 2012 campaign of the Spanish national team as well.
However, the Spaniard returned to action for La Blaugrana right at the start of the season but soon he fractured his cheek bone and was again left on the sidelines by the coach, Tito Vilanova.
After recovering from his cheekbone problem, the Barcelona club captain made his return during the game against Benfica.
Even though Barcelona won all three points against the Portuguese giants, they lost their first-choice defender, Carles Puyol, who fell on to his arm and dislocated his elbow during the game.
With Puyol now injured, Barcelona will be without Gerard Pique and Carles Puyol when they take on their arch-rivals, Real Madrid, over the upcoming weekend.
Without these two defenders, Tito Vilanova will have to rely on http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Alex-Song-c4804, who are both considered to be make-shift defenders.
