  1. The Panasonic PV-GS2 is a miniDV based camcorder. As with ALL miniDV tape based camcorders, video is imported form the camcorder to a computer using a Firewire cable connected to the DV port of the camera to the firewire port on your computer.

    Download your manual here:

    http://www2.panasonic.com/consumer-elect...

Refer to page 59 in the manual about connectivity to other DV devices. If your computer does not have a firewire port, install one. Firewire400, IEEE1394 and i.Link are all the same thing.

USB will be used ONLY for transferring stills from the memory card.

You do not need the CD with the stuff they provided if you get the firewire (IEEE1394a, i.Link) card working in your computer... Chances are pretty good the drivers won't work (except for the USB still photo transfer), but you can download them at the above link.

The type of firewire cable will depend on whay firewire port your computer has. The most common one is the 4-pin (comcorder DV port) to 6-pin (computer) IEEE1394 cable. Sometimes, a 4-pin to 4-pin is used.

Windows XP SP2 comes with MovieMaker for editing. Mac OSX comes with iMovie for editing.
