  1. You'd get quicker results next time if you post in the Camcorder section. Here we go:

The drivers won't do you any good if you don't have the means to connect the camcorder to your computer. The USB cable that came with your camera cannot be used to transfer video; raw video is simply too large to transfer through USB. The USB cable is included so that you can transfer stills and other files to and from the memory card and so that the camcorder can be used as a webcam. The driver for these functions is available here:

According to the Panasonic website the PV-GS85 uses IEEE 1394, also known as FireWire, to transfer footage from your DV tape to a computer. I think you could capture using the RCA composite cables (red, yellow, white) but you'd still need to have the jacks on your computer. If you have neither RCA jacks or a FireWire jack on your computer the best way to go is FireWire; there's more potential quality loss when you use RCA.

FireWire PCI cards cost under $20 and are quite easy to install. Just make sure you have an open PCI slot on your computer before purchasing one. When buying make sure OHCI compliancy is indicated.

Check to see if your camcorder came with a FireWire cable. They look like this (not to be confused with a USB cable):

If the camcorder didn't come with one you can buy one for under $8 shipped on eBay.

    Good luck.
