Pybus eager to tackle challenge of coaching young Bangladesh side – Cricket News Update
Newly appointed http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Richard-Alexander-Pybus-c84844, has expressed eagerness at the prospect of guiding the young side, and enabling them to attain excellence by further developing the confidence they displayed during the Asia Cup in March this year.
Pybus is the third coach appointed for the Tigers in the course of one year. His predecessor http://www.senore.com/Cricket/James-Darren-Siddons-c65582 in
July 2011.
The Tigers are currently among the teams at the bottom of the ICC’s Test and ODI rankings, but Pybus has termed the coaching job an “engaging and unique” task, insisting that he aims to not just enable the side to develop, but learn to consistently win matches.
“Because Bangladesh are a young side, there may be an acceptance that is all about development, and that is not right,” he said. “I will work on a system based on excellence. I want to be playing winning cricket, to create multi-format players, to focus
on being competitive enough to be able to win series."
Bangladesh came close to getting a taste of victory on the international stage earlier this year in March, when they finished at second place in the Asia Cup they hosted, played against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758. While they managed to humble the formidable
Indian team with a 5-wicket victory on March 16, they were unable to subdue Pakistan in the tournament final, though they came fairly close, losing by a narrow 2-run margin.
“Bangladesh are only just starting to discover their self-belief, you could see that in the Asia Cup,” Pybus pointed out. “When you start to win games, you build that ability to cross a mental bridge and winning becomes something tangible to you.”
He went on to explain that his initial plans for the side involve instilling a sense of competition within the team – the 47-year-old revealed that he intends to make sure that players know they need to earn places on the national squad, and will be given
opportunities if they put pressure on selectors with the strength of consistent performances.
Pybus has signed a two-year deal with the board, and his first assignment is scheduled to be Bangladesh’s upcoming Twenty20 Triangular Series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Zimbabwe-c3045, due to begin on June 18.
