i took my kona mountain bike in for a service this morning had new gears shifters, brake pads, all the cable's done the bloke said it could do with a new crank set as a few teeth are warn out , so am i right to consider new crank & rear cassette & chain, it will be pretty much a new bike again, all he had was python cranks & sun race chain's & cassette's, i know there not the best of makes but i really dont want to pay £100 just for a crank. also any ideas on how much this should cost for parts and labour?.

  1. never heard of Python...You don't need a whole new chainset for worn teeth on a chainring. Just a new chainring...

  2. Don,t know python brand, but if teeth are worn on the Cw, then rear sprocket is also worn and chain may be stretched, they all tend to wear out together, and on cheaper cw cannot replace rings only as they are riveted on, if you are not currently experiencing problems such as slippage or gears jumping, then I would carry on using it till you have to have the work done.
