I bought what I was told to be an African rock python last december. A few days ago, I went to my local reptile store and they had a large burmese python on display. I even had my rock python with me. To my utter shock, they both looked identical! Now I'm confused on whether I purchased a rock python or a burm. Or are they one in the same? I don't know! Please help me!

  1. African Rock Pythons and Burmese Pythons are two different species.  At a glance they can be easily mistaken for the Burmese python, but the two species are not closely related.

African Rock Pythons can grow to be over 20 feet long, and are one of the world's largest snakes. They typically only grow to be 16 feet long, but there is one on record of over 32 feet! They are typically brown in color, with olive green and tan irregular blotching, fading to white on the underside.

  2. those snakes can eat you

  3. Rocks and burms look very much alike but there are 2 different species . it is definitely easy to mistake 1 for the other. if you got yours from a reputable breeder i wouldn't worry much

  4. Do you have a picture? If you do., I'll gladly tell you what you have.

  5. you could go back to the store and they could tell you the differnce andtry to get some marking as a way to seperate the looks.

  6. well it can be mistaken so it could be ether one because the pet store may have gotten it wrong so good luck

  7. Burmese python is python molurus bivittatus

african rock python is  python sebae

look up these names on google images and compare them to what you have.

  8. Rock pythons are much more aggressive than Burmese.  They are not the same species.
