I recently got my mother in laws ball python. She has never had any problems out of it. It was living in a 10gal tank and I moved him into a 40gal. he is about 3 ft long. He will not come out from under is log house and his eyes have been a foggy blue for about a week. His scales are also paler. I did some research and read that he could be trying to shed. I am worried. He hasnt moved in days.

  1. Sounds like he's going into shed, mine like to be left alone while they do this. Keep him moist by misting, it helps prevent problem sheds, and once finished check the skin for the shed eye caps...this is important as if they're retained they can cause problems.

Mean while make sure the viv is packed with plants/hiding places. This is a breed that likes to feel secure and surrounded.

    Enjoy him!

  2. a 40 gallon tank is perfect for your ball python.  right before (a day or two) he sheds your snake will seem to go back to his normal coloring after that he will shed.

  3. you might of moved the tank size up too fast is it still eating? ya it is prolly gonna start shedding try putting it in its water bowl to help its shed but as for staying in hidding prolly just nervous or shy and you can also get stuff from pet stores to help with the shedding

  4. He is shedding, they like to be left alone.  BTW, 40 gallon tank is big for a BP, he is probably scared.  Make sure you have a hide on both sides and BPs are shy animals, most like to stay in their hides most of the time.

  5. Yep that is what is happening he is shedding. Just let him be, make sure you have a bowl big enough for him with water in it. Soaking in it will help. That is where I generally find my king snake in the midst of shedding. In a couple days he will shed and be all nice and shinny again.

    Hope I helped.

  6. ya hes definitely about to shed dont worry

  7. Your python is going to shed. Mist it 2 times a day, that should do it. Only soak the python if the misting doesn't work.

  8. Yup, shedding.  Give him a couple of weeks to adjust to his new home before handling and feeding.  Most snakes are more active at night and it is very natural for them to hide all day.  Here's a good site to read over about BP's.
