How many box surfaces are touching sand, how many box surfaces do not touch sand? This assumes no sand touches the bottom face of any box, the bottom face in this case being, the under side of the bottom of any box, and that the outside of the largest box touches no sand.

  1. Why assume that "no sand touches the bottom face of any box"?  Some sand might.

And I agree with the square root guy.

  2. Are there lids to the boxes?

  3. Too much of a lady to say it, but I agree with -B--'s answer.

  4. 111111111111111111111111111 That is assuming the boxes do not touch sand on the bottoms yet if the largest box must get some on the bottom so you should count one more I should think.
