Water pressure energy turns a turbine which turns a Generator which creates Electricity.

Water in rivers or falls is stored in an elevated dam. Water from the dam is piped through penstock ducts with control valves.Water then drives a pelton Wheel when the control valve is open.The pelton wheel is directly connected to an. alternator which rotates at a desired speed(rpm). Voltage generated is connected to a switchboard and to a step up transformers for transmission to load centers.
