Q School: Amateur Bredenhann reels off five birdies in fourth round, takes third spot
Amateur Bonita Bredenhann of South Africa reeled off five birdies in the fourth round of Lalla Aicha Tour School 2013 to grab the third position on the leaderboard.
It was a phenomenal performance in every way as Bredenhann maintained her fiery form that saw her post a 64 in the third round.
The South African amateur shot a 67 in the fourth round, thanks to the birdie binge and no bogey.
Bredenhann could not get off to a fast start because she posted a 71 in the first round. The first round saw Swedish Isabella Ramsay seize the lead after she carded a 65.
Bredenhann stepped up pressure on rivals from the third round, launching 8 birdies and one eagle on the last hole. Although she carded two bogeys, her solid putting on most of the holes carried her through to the third spot on the leaderboard.
Starting her fourth round on the front nine, the young gun parred the first two holes. She then birdied the difficult par-3 third and parred the remaining holes to post a 35.
On the back nine, Bredenhann came on strong as she rattled off four birdies and avoided bogeys. She handled the ball tactfully on the greens of 10th, carding her second birdie of the day.
Speaking to the media about her form on the fourth day of the five-day LET (Ladies European Tour) qualifying tournament, Bredenhann said that she was happy with her performance in the third round, and she managed to keep a grip on her game on Sunday as well.
She regretted making poor shots on the greens of some of the holes, saying she would have boosted her score even further.
“I missed a few holes that could have been birdies but I was just trying to be calm, focused and play shot by shot,” said the 20-year-old amateur.
“I was chasing Ariya but she was playing really, really well, putting it next to the pins and sank her putts”.
Ariya Jutanugarn posted a 65 in the fourth round to maintain her lead on the leaderboard. Jutanugarn, an amateur from Thailand, made a fast charge in the third round, firing a 64 to jump to the top spot on the leaderboard.
