Okay so I am flying from Chicago O' Hare to New York JFK airport, flying with American Airlines. Will be in JFK 5 hrs before I take my next flight, with British Airways, going to London, UK (Heathrow airport). My question is, will I need to do anything with my baggage being that I'm switching airlines, flying international and also since I'll be in JFK for 5 hrs? I do NOT want anything to get lost!

Thanks for any help/advice anyone can give me. :)

  1. lol! no the airline does it all for you, you check it in Chicago and hopefully if it doesn't get misplaced or searched then you should pick it up once you get off the plane in heathrow.

the sticker that the airline sticks on your bag tells the airline where your bag is going next. make sure you get the number so IF your bag isn't in heathrow when you expect it to be then you can take it to lost luggage and they can track it down. !

    good luck!

  2. American Airlines and British Airways are One World Alliance partners, American will forward your bags onto your BA flight and should be able to ticket you and give you your boarding pass for your BA flight as well. All you should have to do at JFK is find your gate, and possibly another security check if you have to change terminals, which is most likely. This is a very common procedure and although luggage can get lost, it's not likely.
