QB Andrew Luck aims higher as Indianapolis Colts head to Pittsburgh – NFL News
Indianapolis Colts’ rookie star Andrew Luck has received praise from his teammates for his athletic ability and leadership skills but the quarterback insists he has to improve further from the performance level he has given in the team’s 38-3 win over the
St. Louis Rams in the preseason opener last week.
Andrew humbly conceded it is too early for him to boast his success in the league, saying he has to do a lot better than what he did in the first game, which was marked with what he calls good and bad things.
He said:
"I think you just try and get better. Obviously, it was nice to go out and play a game and do some good things, do some bad things."
It is true that no player can be content with his form after having participated in a single game, especially when there is a career change from amateur to profession league, Luck’s concern for better showing is also down to the fact that he faces the demand
of higher expectations.
He otherwise has received praise from his teammates and some commentators over what he achieved during his first-ever pro appearance. Cornerback, Justin King said of the rookie:
"I was surprised by his athletic ability and his decision-making as a rookie. His pocket-presence is very good. We've seen he (Luck) can throw and we know he's smart, but with the live bullets coming, he responded very, very well."
The point had already been validated by some commentators, who first watched the rookie arrive in Indianapolis, sounding to be a mature leader during the first appearance with the teammates.
Luck has the unique ability of engaging the receivers and other players, quickly noticing their mistakes and lapses and guiding, as matter of fact working with them, to rectify them. He is not afraid of confronting colleagues about their mistakes.
The QB is now due to face the first on-road game challenge when Colts meet the Steelers in Pittsburgh for the second game of the preseason on 19th of this month. Lucky for him he does not have to face Steelers’ daring linebacker James Harrison.
The LB, who is well known for roughing up oppositions’ offensive players, is out of the side with a knee injury.
