QB Andrew Luck shines but admits regular season challenge awaits him – NFL News
Rookie quarterback Andrew Luck is pleased with his form that has helped the Indianapolis Colts to start the new season with a win over the St. Louis Rams in the preseason opener, which was first since 1994, but realises a real challenge awaiting him is the
start of the regular season campaign from next month.
It was a significant victory for Colts for reasons that it was a good consolatory comeback for them after their loss in 14 games during the last season and that they had never won a preseason opener since 1994. The result was also a win-win situation for
the rookie QB and Colts, and both are happy with the outcome of the game.
Yet Luck has rightly admitted that it is just a beginning and he still is far away from proving himself in really challenging conditions. This is true given the preseason games are often less challenging as the coaches try many players on the field and the
quality of games is not rated to be as higher as that of the regular season games.
Andrew said:
"To get a win, get in the game and put some drives together is great. But I realise, and the guys in the locker room realize, it's a preseason game and things will be different as the season goes along."
The rookie managed to complete 10 out of 16 passes for 188 yards. This includes two touchdown passes. Coach Chuck Pagano is apparently content with form of the QB.
Chuck said:
"I know we picked him up off the turf a couple times, but he's a big, strong, athletic guy and he can take a hit. We don't want him taking too many, but to see him perform the way he did and do the things that he did under pressure, I thought he handled
it well.”
It was a good result for the coach, who himself is into his first year with the team. The 38-3 result showed that Colts were in charge of the game most of the time.
