QB Andy Dalton leads Cincinnati Bengals beat mistake-riddled New York Giants – NFL Recap
The Cincinnati Bengals ended their four-game losing stream with a comprehensive 31-13 win over the visiting reigning champions the New York Giants at Paul Brown stadium on Sunday (Nov. 11).
From beginning to end it appeared to be the Bengals' day as many factors contributed to their easy victory against a far better side of the Giants. They are defending champions but played like a side struggling to make even the playoffs.
As Bengals’ wide receiver A.J. Green had rightly pointed out before the game that the Giants had many holes in their defence, this was what seen on the field on the weekend. While the visitors threw away the opportunity, the Bengals’ offence timely found
themselves in prime form to make it easier for themselves at the end.
Quarterback Andy Dalton, who has recently been criticised by his coach Marvin Lewis, finally found his lost touch for what he had been known for in the rookie season. Now the second-year QB threw for 199 yards, completing 21 out of 30 passes. He got away
with any sacking or interception.
His impressive were record-high four touchdown passes that took the game away into favour of the hosts, who were cheered by 56,614 crowd, less than capacity of the stadium, given the Bengals have been performing poorly lately.
It was overall a pathetic and mistake-riddled show-off by the Giants. They gave away all sorts of opportunities to the hosts including turnovers by their quarterback Eli Manning.
Manning has been under dire criticism for last few games, because his performance is far less than potential, and he again turned out to be struggling versus the Bengals.
"That's what won the game for us, getting the ball with great field position and scoring when we got down there," said Dalton.
Manning himself said he was not worried for the present form of the team. He thinks the team has been playing in stretches with bad display of talent and skills in between.
He said:
"No, I'm not worried. Over the years, we've gone through stretches where we haven't played our best football and we've been able to bounce out of that, and that's what's going on right now."
Green apparently enjoyed the game thoroughly as it happened to be in line with his anticipation about the weaker links in the opposition's defence.
The receiver said:
"Their defence is great. We were able to break some big plays."
The Giants who are defending the Super Bowl title this season were favourites in the game for two reasons: the Bengals’ offence had recently been struggling to find the lost form while the opponents had strong and title winner offensive line.
It was nevertheless a welcome win by the Bengals. It has helped them to consolidate their lead in the American Football Conference (AFC) North 4-5. They are behind the leader the Baltimore Ravens and the Pittsburgh Steelers.
