QB Big Ben happy over Pittsburgh Steelers strong build-up on offence, defence through drafts-NFL News
Pittsburgh Steelers’ quarterback, Ben Roethlisberger, has welcomed strong build-up at the offensive and defensive line by his team during the 2012 National Football League (NFL) draft, held from April 26 to 28, 2012.
Ben has expressed great hopes that the new signings will add to overall strength of the team, which is already in good shape.
He said the arrival of new players has transformed the look of the team, on paper at least, and hopes those players will prove on the field that they are valuable additions.
Roethlisberger, who is also known in the football community as Big Ben, said of the draft players:
"I'm really excited. We got some good guys on offence and defence to help add to a team that was good already."
His appreciative remarks have come after the Steelers confirmed to have added Stanford College’s guard, David DeCastro, and Ohio State tackle, Mike Adams, to the squad. These are two significant additions that had come about in the first and second round
of the draft, respectively.
Big Ben said he was particularly pleased with the signing of DeCastro, hoping he turns out to be a great asset for the side in the longer run.
He added:
"When DeCastro was there, you got to take him. Some are saying he's one of the best guards in college since (nine-time Pro Bowler and former Steeler) Alan Faneca. We hope he can live up to the hype."
Steelers concluded their draft pickings with taking on board Southern Methodist tackle, Kelvin Beachum, in the seventh round.
Ben further said:
“You know, at least on paper, it looks awesome. But you never know until you take the field and the bullets start flying."
Roethlisberger is one of Steelers’ veterans who have been retained into the side even though it was facing some serious salary cap issues. It required the management to part ways with players like Hines Ward.
The QB is among the highest paid Steelers’ players and had to get his deal redone with some reduction in his benefits to help his side be within the limits of the stipulated players’ salary expense.
