QB Brandon Weeden’s return uncertain after coach Pat Shurmur confirms concussion – NFL News
Cleveland Browns coach Pat Shurmur has refrained from giving an exact timeframe for return of concussed rookie quarterback Brandon Weeden who suffered the head injury in the Pittsburgh Steelers game on Sunday Nov 25.
The coach said he had spoken to the player after the game, which was won by the Browns, 20-14, and he appeared fine, although he did not know when he player could return to action because of the unpredictable nature of recovery from injuries like concussions.
Pat said:
"He's good. We had a good conversation. He's being treated for a concussion, and we'll see where that goes. Some guys come back quickly, some guys don't."
Weeden suffered the blow while fighting through an interception in the closing minutes of the weekend’s game. He felt awkwardly and hit his head on the field. He was taken on the sidelines and then to the locker room for examination.
His place was then taken by backup quarterback Colt McCoy to finish off the game without much action, as he did not throw any pass.
Although the injury was rather unfortunate for Weeden who has been on and off with his form and performance since joining the Browns off the 2012 draft, a win was welcome for the team.
They were desperate for their third victory of the season and given the number of problems the Steelers are facing in term of injuries to some of their key players, there was no other better chance for the Browns then to walk over their American Football
Conference (AFC) North division rivals to record a rare victory.
Meanwhile, the coach has not confirmed McCoy will continue to take affairs of the offence on the starting line in case Weeden misses quite a few games while recovering from concussion, although it appears to be the case.
McCoy has started all but last three games of the 2011 season for the Browns and he himself had gone in a similar fashion with a concussion as a result of hit by Steelers’ linebacker James Harrison.
As many as five games are left for the Browns in this season and they hardly have another option but McCoy, who looks to be the natural alternative for the team as an offence leader.
