QB Cam Newton ready for another explosive season with Carolina Panthers - NFL News
Carolina Panthers quarterback, Cam Newton faced a torrent of criticism before even his first snap in the National Football League (NFL) after he was drafted by the Panthers first overall in the 2011 drafts.
NFL analysts and others criticised the Auburn University graduate’s style of play and his accuracy even before he had a chance to prove himself in the league.
However, what came next in the 2011 season without even a full offseason training camp due to the NFL lockout blew everyone away.
Newton had a simply awesome season as he proved week-in and week-out that the Panthers made a great move to sign him up.
The quarterback broke multiple records and set new ones on his way to a brilliant rookie season, leaving those same critics to start singing his praises.
In an interview with the Associated Press on Wednesday, Newton was asked about that criticism and how it impacted him.
He replied confidently and said.
"If I base my career off things people have said that I couldn't do I would have quit this game a long time ago,"
Adding further he said.
"You can't listen to what the naysayers say about you because their opinion is just that -- their opinion."
Newton was explosive last season and showed that he was the whole package as he combined accurate passing with explosive rushing plays to leave his opponents shell shocked.
His efforts even lifted a once worst NFL offence to become the fifth best in the league.
The quarterback even broke Peyton Manning’s long held rookie season passing yards record and scored the most rushing touchdowns by a quarterback in a single season.
His name has already become legendary in Carolina and the quarterback is ready to for another big season this year.
"The thing is, I don't play this game to prove nothing to nobody but myself. I've said it once and I'll say it again, there are a lot of expectations out there for Cameron Newton but none of them are going to ever exceed what I want for myself. And that's
how it is going to be until I'm no longer able to play this game."
Newton had a brilliant rookie season and now he is expected to even become better in 2012-13.
