QB Colt McCoy likely among other players on Cleveland Browns roster bubble – NFL News
Quarterback, Colt McCoy, is seen on Cleveland Browns’ roster bubble that is going to bust some time near preseason or regular season at maximum.
As per rules of the professional football regulatory and representative body, National Football League (NFL), a team can have up to 90 players on its roster until the full training camp.
It is mandatory for them to cut down the number of players to 53 anytime after the training camp when the tone is set for the start of the regular season.
Browns, who do have 90 players on the roster at present, face a dilemma over the choice of the players to cut off the roster.
Irrespective of other names, one player has become focus of a potential move under a trade arrangement or in any alternative option, and he is QB, Colt McCoy.
Colt himself has not requested his release from the management and is determined to fight to retain the leading QB position instead of surrendering it to rookie, Brandon Weeden.
A problem for the incumbent is that the top brasses of Browns have supported the rookie to start for them next season on more than one occasion. President, Mike Holmgren, is particularly on the side of Brandon as far as the starting position
is concerned.
It is not clear if McCoy will accept to play as Brandon’s backup. He so far is determined to resist attempts aimed at taking away the leading role from him. He to some extent has supporting voice in form of head coach, Pat Shurmur.
Both of them, however, know that their choice will matter little in front of the president if he goes for release of the incumbent, unless he offers the player a backup position and he accepts it.
Only encouraging point for McCoy is that Weeden is yet to prove his credentials for the starting position.
Some commentators believe he should be given an opportunity. After all, Browns have tested McCoy time and again so why not give a shot at the rookie, they argue. And if Browns do not waive the incumbent, he will be there anytime to cover
the rookie up.
Irrespective of the QB’s prospective situation, many other players should expect themselves in the line of fire anytime after the training camp.
