QB Drew Brees frustrated by New Orleans Saints foot-dragging on new contract - NFL News
The current offseason has been a nightmare for the New Orleans Saints as the full blow of the bounty scandal punishments start to hit home.
After facing so much adversity many expected the franchise to make signing quarterback, Drew Brees to a new long term deal their biggest priority.
However, that does not seem to be the case as the quarterback and the franchise have still not agreed to a new deal.
Brees was slapped with a franchise tag earlier in the offseason to keep him from testing free agency but the quarterback is yet to sign his tender documents and it with negotiations stalled completely it remains to be seen whether the quarterback will decide
to holdout from the team’s mandatory practice sessions.
The quarterback in radio interview with WWL on Wednesday said that he has become frustrated by the lack of progress with the Saints.
"It's been extremely frustrating for me. I don't think the negotiation should have been this difficult."
Adding further he said.
"This is a big time for our team, especially when you look at what's happened in this offseason, missing our head coach, Sean Payton. There should be a sense of urgency and yet it seems like there's not."
According to earlier reports, the quarterback and the Saints were very far apart in their respective valuations and even though Saints owner, Tom Benson had said in a recent interview that they were close to a deal, Brees says that nothing about the contract
is close to being completed.
Frustration shown by Brees is understandable.
The quarterback is the face of the franchise and a leader on the field. After the suspensions handed down due to the bounty scandal the Saints need Brees more than ever.
He went on to say.
"I think there's certainly what I think would be an appropriate, I guess, [salary] number for my situation. It's not I think anything that's unreasonable or anything like that. I'd say there's a lot that goes into these negotiations ...”
Both sides have till July 16th to agree on a new deal failing which Brees could sign up on the one-year tender or hold out of the entire 2012-13 season altogether.
