QB Drew Stanton wanted nothing to do with Tebow-Mania at New York Jets - NFL News
Ex-New York Jets backup quarterback Drew Stanton did not want anything to do with Tebow-Mania and the accompanying media spotlight as he requested a trade as soon as the Jets went on to sign Tim Tebow from the Denver Broncos.
Stanton ended up at the Indianapolis Colts who are in complete rebuilding mode after releasing their legendary quarterback Peyton Manning.
In an interview to the media Stanton talked about his old franchise and warned quarterback Mark Sanchez of tough times ahead with the arrival of Tebow.
"I think it's difficult because every move you make is going to be completely judged,"
Adding further Stanton said that Tebow’s media attention makes things much more difficult for quarterbacks.
"As if you're not under a big enough microscope already out there in New York -- you have (Tebow), who is probably the biggest sports media darling out there right now that people look at, and it's just hard.”
The new Colts quarterback also went on to say that Sanchez should be careful of not going down the same route as Kyle Orton who Tebow replaced after repeated fan pressure.
"You saw the effects that it had on Kyle Orton, who is a great quarterback in this league, has won a lot of football games in this league. But the overwhelming cry for Tim Tebow when things start heading south, it can be difficult to deal with at times.”
Stanton spent only a single season at the Jets after joining from the Detroit Lions. He was the backup throughout the year to Mark Sanchez in a season rife with problems in the locker room and conflicts between players.
The Jets ended 2011-12 regular season with an 8-8 record and missed out on the playoffs for the first time under coach Rex Ryan.
Mark Sanchez came in for repeated criticism from teammates and fans over his leadership as the Jets went on a nose dive during a crucial stretch in the regular season.
Sanchez though has been given a new three-year contract extension and has been named the starter fro New York for the new season with Tebow coming in as backup.
