QB Jake Locker Tennessee Titans’ likely offence leader in longer run – NFL News
Jake Locker has been projected for a long-term promising career prospects with the Tennessee Titans, irrespective of the question whether he wins the ongoing competition for the starting quarterback position with the incumbent Matt Hasselbeck.
Young Jake has energy and pace and can exploit these strengths to an advantage over the experienced QB Matt, and even if he does not win the starting role this season, he is seen having many opportunities ahead of him to act as the offence
leader.
The QB himself is not bothered either about the outcome of the competition, saying the backup "wouldn't be the end of the world." A number of commentators believe the player has greater chances of playing and growing into the leading role
in future.
Dan Hanzus, the NFL.com writer, in his Around the League analysis writes that Locker has the talent and promise to become a leader.
The player, who was elected at the 8th position overall off the 2011 draft, had an opportunity to learn the offence in pro environment while playing behind veteran Hasselbeck.
He also had an exposure of the starting position while the incumbent was absent from the squad due to some injury problems. This has set the tone of the player as a leader in the longer run, Dan adds.
As the competition for the starting role continues, coach, Mike Munchak, sees it is still wide open to results in favour of any of the two QBs.
Some commentators have tipped Hasselbeck to be the ultimate winner of the competition, saying the veteran has experience and skills and will successfully ward off Locker’s threat to his position.
Hanzus writes there is a possibility that Locker gives an excellent performance in the training camp and this should sway the team’s opinion in his favour.
This could be true given that it was his performance that triggered the competition for the starting role in the first place.
Also, Titans as a team are not expected to regret their decision if they land the starting position to Locker, instead of Hasselbeck.
Interestingly, all the talk around the No. 1 position focuses Locker, while Hasselbeck has maintained a complete silence over the matter.
