QB Jake Locker: Tennessee Titans ready to pitch Peyton Manning of their own-NFL News
Watch out for quarterback, Jake Locker, can be a warning that the Tennessee Titans can sound to their opponents while coming back to the 2012 National Football League (NFL) season, the player has proved to be a consistent winner for the team.
In spite that the player has not got many opportunities with Titans given that they have a fulltime quarterback of a better calibre in form of Matt Hasselbeck, Locker has proved to be second to none during whatever chances he got.
As a matter of fact, his performance as a replacement for the injured Matt a couple of times in 2011 NFL season, made the team give a second thought to their plan of leaving Hasselbeck on the starting position.
After much controversy and uncertainty, the management finally decided to refrain from any sudden change and left the position to their old horse, Hasselbeck.
Yet Locker has always been there ready to accept the leading role anytime. The team’s coach, Mike Munchak, had to admit that Hasselbeck and Locker will be competing for the starting position in the offseason.
Recently, Titans who became interested in signing of former Indianapolis Colts’ quarterback, Peyton Manning, had been criticised for the chase in presence of two star quarterbacks.
With Manning going out of their reach, the team owner, general manager and coach have backed Locker for his future role in the team. They are said to be happy with their quarterback situation.
Now when it is certain that both players will be joining the team in their past roles, the question about the starting role has again been part of discussions lately.
In spite of commendable performance by Hasselbeck, the rising stature and game level of Locker is making it difficult for the management to get over with the possibility of assigning the leading role to him.
Most important thing for Locker is to stick around in any position in the squad and prove his worth again whenever he gets an opportunity in absence of Hasselbeck.
Almost all the team officials have come to the realisation that Locker should be given more opportunities, but hoping for presenting those opportunities naturally themselves just to avoid the possibility of controversy between the two QBs.
Both players, and particularly Matt Hasselbeck, have recently been put in a bad situation due to the team’s serious interest in Manning. Hasselbeck even considered asking Titans for his release.
