QB Joe Flacco hopeful Baltimore Ravens will agree to long-term deal extension – NFL News
Baltimore Ravens’ vocal quarterback, Joe Flacco, holds greater prospects of signing a rather long-term extension into his deal after it runs out by end of the 2012 National Football League (NFL) season, which begins in September this year.
The player, while citing his performance in the 2011 NFL season, which helped his team to reach the American Football Conference (AFC) championship, said that he has proved enough to earn the extension.
Apparently, Ravens have shown an interest in retaining him and a deal is expected to reach between them and the player’s agent during some time in the offseason, which will allow him to play the professional football for his side for more seasons to come.
A meeting between Ravens management and Flacco’s agent, Joe Linta, is scheduled at the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis next week and both the parties are expected to agree to a renewed contract terms for the player.
The surging focus of the Baltimore Ravens on their offence points out at the importance of their quarterback, Joe Flacco, and the team will be interested to retain him in the longer-run.
Ravens have traditionally relied on their defence in most of their wins, and all of sudden are awaken to strengthening of their offence. To fulfil their objectives and goals on their offensive attack line, they have added a full-time offensive coach to their
coaching department.
The offensive coach is no other than Jim Caldwell, the former Indianapolis head coach, who has been credited to coach and groom the only four-time Most Valuable Player (MVP) quarterback, Peyton Manning.
Joe Flacco has greater chances to work and improve under supervision of Caldwell and the coach has already spoken of his plans for the quarterback.
This confirms that the team is serious about his re-signing and he also has the opportunity to negotiate better terms with them.
Flacco has been vocal throughout the past season, often blaming his team management of ignoring him in their credit giving to their players of their wins.
He has now spoken of his keenness for continuing playing for Colts and has banked on his past year’s performance to claim that he has proved enough to win a new deal from his team.
"We'll see how it goes," Flacco said. "If it goes, it goes. If it doesn't, it doesn't."
The quarterback managed to throw for 3610 yards with 20 touchdown passes and 12 interceptions during the 2011 regular season.
He was especially impressive in the AFC championship game, which his team lost to the New England Patriots in last few seconds of the stipulated time.
The quarterback is amongst few Ravens veterans who nearing end of their career and are vying for opportunities of playing few more years.
