QB Joe Flacco insists not carried away by deal talks, sees himself a Raven in longer run – NFL News
As the encouraging reports started pouring in on the deal talks between the Baltimore Ravens and the agent of quarterback Joe Flacco, the player has reiterated to remain a Raven in the longer run.
Joe insisted he is not being carried away by the deal matter, saying he is just focused on his game and on the future with the Ravens.
Surprisingly, it is for the first time Joe has sounded so positive and encouraging about his career as earlier he even threatened to go rebellious to the team’s offseason programme in protest to his compelling long-term deal matter.
The vocal QB is into the last year of his rookie contract and due to earn $6.76 million this season. He has demanded the management to agree to fresh terms with him, and the team has reciprocated in the positive manners.
Yet both sides could not come to the negotiation table until recently when the Ravens were finally done with the urgent contract matter of running back Ray Rice. The team signed a five-year, $40 million deal with Ray and Flacco said it
is a welcome development for the RB as it will make him feel secure and comfortable.
The QB said of Ray’s deal:
"I was happy for him. I sent him a text right away, 'Congratulations.' He deserves it. He played his a - off the last couple of years. It's just good to see that he has the security and that he can feel comfortable."
Meanwhile, Flacco insisted he is not dragged into worries about the prospects of his deal but remains committed to stay a Raven in the longer run.
He said:
"I'm not worried about it. I told Joe (Joe Linta, Flacco's agent) don't even call me. I'm not worried about it. Unless you have some kind of crazy news, then don't concern me with it.”
He added:
"I'm going to go out there, I'm going to play, I'm going to practice. There really is no timetable. If it happens, it happens."
A section of media reported a couple of days earlier that Flacco’s deal discussions have covered almost 75 percent ground and in the wake of the report a new contract can be expected ready for signing anytime in the near future.
