QB Matt Schaub, Houston Texans ink 4-year $62 million fresh deal – NFL News
Quarterback Matt Schaub has expressed excitement over winning another opportunity from the Houston Texans after both sides confirmed agreeing to terms of a fresh four-year, $62 million contract for the player.
Matt was into his sixth straight and final year with the Texans as per his previous deal but his stay has now been extended for the aforementioned period under the new contract, which has $24.75 million guaranteed money in the total payout.
The fresh deal has coincided with return of the QB from a foot injury to action in the regular season with an impressive start against the Miami Dolphins on Sunday night, helping his side claim a convincing victory over the visitors.
He while confirming signing of the fresh terms thanked coach Gary Kubiak, owner Bob McNair and general manager Rick Smith for their part in successful negotiation of the deal.
According to the QB:
"I'm very excited to continue to make Houston our home. My wife and I are raising our kids here, so we're very excited to be a part of this community. Just excited for this opportunity."
Schaub was asked about the pending deal matter during his media talk in the offseason and then he had denied being aware of it happening and if so when it would happen.
Now he insists to have remained focus on the game and not let the matter serve as a hurdle to him, irrespective of the fact that he was playing last year at the Texans, under the previous terms.
He said of the situation:
"At no point was this ever going to be a distraction for me. I'm excited for it to be done and over with so every ounce of focus and energy can be directed to this season and what we have going, and not being out there, as something down the road."
Although his backup QB T.J. Yates had performed well into his rookie appearance last year, helping the side to the American Football Conference (AFC) South division win and reaching the playoffs, it at no point brought future of Schaub into question. Now
the new deal confirms the confidence the Texans have posed in the veteran since his selection off the 2007 draft.
