QB Matt Schaub returns to action, raring to join training camp – NFL News
Houston Texans’ star quarterback, Matt Schaub, has returned to action, participating in an informal workout activity with some of the veterans at the team’s facilities in Houston a couple of days ago.
He has reported his 100 percent fitness and is raring to stage a formal comeback by training camp next month. It is good news for the team, who missed the QB during most part of the 2011 National Football League (NFL) season.
Matt had Lisfranc surgery last year and since then is in a phase of recovery and rehab. A month ago, he told the management he was almost there as far as the rehab was concerned.
The QB led throws in his first-ever practice since the injury along with some of the veterans, including wide receiver, Andre Johnson, who himself is returning from an arthroscopic knee operation.
Schaub said:
"Right now, the rookies are at the symposium - the drafted guys. Come next week. I expect all them to be out there. Andre's been out there and a few other veterans. Right now, some of them have taken a little break, but we'll come back
here next week or just after the Fourth so we'll have three good weeks after that to really get after it."
Texans did well in absence of Schaub last year, thanks to rookie QB, T.J.Yates’ impressive performance on the starting line. They still missed the player in some of their games, particularly the playoff game against the Baltimore Ravens.
A number of commentators are of the view that Texans could have done better if Schaub was there. Accuracy in the passes is one of the main strengths of the player and his presence in the squad could have posed a real challenge to Ravens’
defence.
Now the team hopes he remains healthy and fit during the entire next season, which will be crucial to the team’s performance.
They are coming on the field this season as a Super Bowl contenders and form of Schaub is essential to their chances of progressing through from the previous year’s level.
The team was through to the playoffs after winning the American Football Conference (AFC) South division championship, for the first time in their franchise history.
