QB Matthew Stafford feels 2012 Detroit Lions team will be even better - NFL News
Optimism is running high in the Detroit Lions camp after a brilliant campaign last season where the Lions finally became a team that could go toe-to-toe with the toughest opponents in the National Football League (NFL).
Now quarterback, Matthew Stafford believes that the team is ready to push on to new heights in the upcoming season.
The Lions added talented young players such as offensive tackle, Riley Reiff and wider receiver, Ryan Broyles in the 2012 drafts.
Stafford believes that the addition of his new teammates has improved the team considerably and the Lions will be even better in the 2012-13 season.
Speaking to the Detroit Free Press on Thursday, Stafford said.
“I think we’re better because of the draft picks we got. Every year, you add talent as a team through free agency and the draft, and we were able to do that again this year.”
The Lions reached the playoffs for the first time since 1999 last season as they ended the regular season with an impressive 10-6 record.
Stafford overcame his long running injury problems last year and he combined wonderfully with wide receiver, Calvin Johnson to push the Lions into the playoff wildcard round.
Even though they lost the playoff game against the New Orleans Saints, Stafford is pretty confident that the team can push on this year and is targeting the Super Bowl.
“Everyone’s goal at the start of the season is to win the Super Bowl. We made a step in the right direction last year, going to the playoffs.”
Adding further he said.
“Obviously, lost the game. That was disappointing, because you get so close, but hopefully, we can just build on last season and move in the right direction.”
Detroit fans have long waited for the day that their team will become real challengers and now that time has finally come.
This year fans are expecting big things from the side and confidence in the franchise’s prospects for a new season has never been higher.
It remains to be seen how the new season will pan out for the Lions as the team prepares to target the playoffs once again.
