QB Matthew Stafford wins football package for Detroit Lions vs Chicago Bears game, donates it to young patient
Quarterback, Matthew Stafford is a hero for Detroit Lions fans on-the-field as he helped the franchise end its playoff drought by qualifying for the wildcard round for the first time since 1999.
Stafford on Saturday became a young child’s hero after winning a football package for a game between the Lions and Chicago Bears which will take place in October and donated it to the young patient and his family.
The package carries six tickets for the game plus a two-day accommodation and a tour of the facility with ESPN broadcaster, Mike Tirico.
Stafford bid $ 15,000 on the package.
The quarterback donated the package to young patient, Faith Falzone who is suffering from a bowel disorder and will undergo surgery this week.
Stafford sat with Falzone and her family during a charity dinner to raise funds for a new Children’s Hospital at the University of Michigan.
When the quarterback won the award on Saturday and gave it to Faith’s brother Will the young child’s eyes lit up and he hugged the quarterback tightly according to his Mother Mary Ann Bell.
Writing on her blog she said.
"As (Stafford) won the package, he turned to Will and said, 'There you go buddy, you go to Chicago, and take your family.' The look on my sons face, I will never forget. His chin began to quiver, he was about to cry. He quickly jumped up and gave Matt a
hug, and thanked him over and over again."
Stafford talked with Detroit News on Monday and said that Faith and her family’s struggle over the last two years was inspiring for him and he is glad he could give them a little joy.
"They have been through so much in the past couple years, and to see how much they all supported each other and Faith through their tough times was really inspiring. I wanted to give them something they could really be excited about and something I know
they deserved."
This is a great story and will further improve Stafford’s already growing reputation in Detroit.
Joining the Lions from Georgia as the first overall pick in 2009, the quarterback has settled in extremely well at Motor City and fans have really taken to him.
