QB Peyton Manning leads Denver Broncos to 37-6 win over Oakland Raiders - NFL Recap
When Peyton Manning finds his groove the Denver Broncos are unstoppable as the Oakland Raiders can attest after they were convincingly beaten by the Broncos 37-6 on Sunday, September 30, 2012.
The Broncos not only ended their two-game losing streak but also ended their poor record at home against the Raiders winning for the first time at home since 2007 against their Sunday opponents.
Manning who had struggled in the previous two games was back in his groove again passing for 338 yards and three touchdowns two of them in the third quarter to deliver an important win for Denver.
Unlike his previous games the veteran quarterback had just eight incompletions this time and this showed in overall offence as Denver’s receivers had a field day with receiver Demaryius Thomas making five receptions for 103 yards while Eric Decker scored
a touchdown and made seven receptions for 79 yards.
Broncos head coach John Fox could not help but praise his quarterback for the way he is settling into the team.
Speaking to the media after the game he said:
"He's getting more comfortable. Let's not forget he didn't play for over a year and this is a new team, new coaching staff, new city, new field, new everything for him. The type of guy he is, he's going to get better and better."
This time Denver were not chasing the game but kept on adding to their first half lead as they scored 27 points while the Raiders could just watch as their offence kept on running into the brick wall that was the Broncos defence.
Oakland did not create a single scoring play in the second half of the game leaving Raiders quarterback Carson Palmer to lament:
"It was nothing more than a good, old-fashioned butt-whupping."
Palmer threw for 202 yards and no touchdowns as the Raiders capitulated completely.
For the first time this season Denver scored in the first quarter.
Manning completed his first drive of 11 plays and 80 yards with a touchdown after passing to Joel Dreessen for a 22-yard touchdown.
The Raiders responded with a Sebastian Janikowski field goal four minutes later to make it 7-3 but the Broncos completed another drive to setup a field goal for Matt Prater at the death to take their lead to 10-3 at the end of the first quarter.
Denver dominated proceedings in the second quarter but could not make their advantage count and the Raiders reverting to type scoring another field goal to peg back the Broncos lead to 10-6.
In the second half though Manning came out determined and the Broncos scored three touchdowns in the third quarter to put the game to bed while Matt Prater added six more points in the fourth quarter through two field goals to help Denver record a major
victory over their division rivals.
