QB Peyton Manning likely to start formal talks with potential suitors during free agency -NFL News
Free agent quarterback, Peyton Manning, who has recently been linked to meetings with the Denver Broncos and Arizona Cardinals, is expected to come out with a clear future strategy after Tuesday, March 13, 2012, which is the opening date for the free agency
market.
Peyton, who is just coming out of the busy and hectic week, which first brought the announcement of his departure from the Indianapolis Colts and then lengthy visits to Broncos and Cardinals, is likely to start formal negotiations with his potential suitors
after the date.
His meetings with the managers from Broncos and Cardinals are described to be preliminary and informal even though the teams have been serious in their aims of pursuing him.
So far, Manning has reported interests from as many as 12 teams, but he might not be talking to all of them.
One of the teams, which are more hopeful of meeting Manning, is the Miami Dolphins.
In addition, Tennessee Titans’ owner, Bud Adams, has gone public with the explicit desire of convincing the player for return to Tennessee, where Peyton played the college league.
Neither the player nor his agent, Tom Condon, has spoken of any specific consideration with regard to the next move and the player is open to all options.
Manning, who played for 14 years for the Indianapolis Colts, was released by the team a week ago due to apparent health problems, but Colts’ owner, Jim Irsay, citied financial issues behind Manning’s release.
In any case, all those teams which were anxiously waiting for the release but could not express their desires more explicitly due to the league rules, have become active in the market with hopes of convincing the player to join them.
The next couple of weeks are going to be most important time of the player’s career as they will determine his future course, and rest of his professional career, whatever left, would be dependent on that.
Apparently, Peyton Manning is well aware of the situation since he knows the status of his injury more than anyone else, and is not interested to make a hasty decision, especially the one that could cost him his future.
With regard to his health, Manning himself feels hundred per cent, and so do some of doctors who are privy to his recovery.
At the same time, he said he will not prove anything to anyone, which leaves the potential buyers to assess the situation on their own before taking their chances.
