The ongoing controversy around the recovery and return of Indianapolis Colts’ quarterback, Petyon Manning, has not much affected the National Football League (NFL), as its commissioner, Roger Goodell, said that he was not bothered about by the talk around
it.
Peyton Manning’s football future with or without had been talk of the town during the week leading to the NFL championship game, Super Bowl, on Sunday, February 05, 2012, and in some cases dominated all the conversations on the developments around the event.
NFL boss was posed the question pertaining to the Manning controversy, and whether it was affecting the league’s Super Bowl preparations.
He refuted the impression that the league office has any sort of impact or influence of the ongoing talk around it.
Goodell said that Manning talk had not bothered him at all, apparently hinting at the realisation of Manning’s profile and stature that has become the focal point of all discussions around the future of his career.
Almost all the stakeholders, including his former managers, coaches, family members, friends, football peers and most importantly, are on the issue more frequently; and all the their interest to know what future is awaiting for the player.
The amount of support and backing that Peyton has received since the possibility of his recovery from a neck injury came to the light, reflects on his tremendous popularity among the football community.
His employer, Jim Irsay, has become under fire from all segments of the community over his attitude towards solving of the problem. A majority of them has accused him of seeking an escape away from Manning’s legacy at Colts and he faces a tough choice of
keeping or releasing the player.
Goodell’s remarks are the latest of all the statements from other officials from the league and its franchises, who have expressed their optimism in urgent solution of the lingering Manning-controversy.
The city Indianapolis that saw all the hustle bustle of Super Bowl related activities and attracted a large number of key football figures all over the United States, was full of pro-Manning talk throughout the week.
Peyton’s lingering issue had also gained prominence in the background of his younger brother’s presence in the town.
Eli Manning, Peyton’s younger brother who is a QB at the New York Giants, was in the Indianapolis to play the Super Bowl tie and he proved to be a source of attention of football community on the issue of his elder brother.
All the Manning family members were in the town throughout the Super Bowl week and they had extra media exposure due to their prominence in the game of football. Archie Manning, father of Eli and Peyton has also played the league as a quarterback.
