QB Peyton Manning still on chance to join another team as talks with owner Jim Irsay continue – NFL News
A few days after confirmation of talks between Indianapolis Colts’ owner, Jim Irsay, and the quarterback, Peyton Manning, some media reports have linked the player to a possible move to any of the top teams on the National Football League (NFL).
Colts owner is apparently upbeat about his conversation with Peyton and speaks of a great optimism in finding a solution to the player’s $28 million bonus payment and his return to the side in the future.
This does not clear the situation around the player’s possible move to any other franchise on the NFL, which is more evident in failure of the talks in reaching an amicable end.
Earlier reports had identified the New York Jets and the Miami Dolphins as his potential destinations in the wake of his availability in the trade market.
Officials from both sides said that they were interested in pursuing the player’s signing after he becomes free agency in March this year (2012).
Now some reports have linked him to a possible move to any other highest ranked team on the league.
In spite that any of his potential suitors has not been pinpointed by the reports, it will certainly not be the New York Giants, the reigning Super Bowl champions.
Peyton’s younger brother, Eli Manning, is a quarterback at Giants and he will definitely not be selfish to ruin his career.
All these reports are less likely to make an impact on the talks between Irsay and Manning given that the player himself has spoken of his strong desire to stay at the Indianapolis.
He also stands an opportunity to be welcomed by Irsay, as the owner has hinted, if there is a solution to the lingering issue of the player’s return from injury and before that restructuring of his deal that is acceptable to both the parties.
Irsay said it is now player’s responsibility to make a call on the renegotiations of his contract so that a solution acceptable to both of them is worked out.
Irrespective to the reports that have consistently linked him to a possible move to any other team, the player himself has not spoken of that being on his mind.
Peyton Manning will become an unrestricted free agency after March 13, if he is not paid the optional bonus of $28 million by March 08, 2012. The payment will activate his deal for another four years at Colts.
Apparently, the owner is not interested to make the bonus payment to the player and is most likely to seek an extension into the final deadline.
Amid an increasing amount of uncertainty about the recovery from a neck injury, the team’s owner is hesitant to make financial commitments to the quarterback without having a proof of his clear future football prospects.
