QB Vince Young wins $2 million year-long deal from Buffalo Bills, likely to get backup role-NFL News
Quarterback, Vince Young, is set to join the Buffalo Bills from Monday, May 14, 2012 after the management officially confirmed to have agreed with him the terms of a year-long deal.
A section of media quoted anonymous people, who were privy to the negotiation process, disclosing that both parties had worked out a year-long contract.
Later, the team made it official that they have signed a one-year, $2 million contract with Young and that the player would be joining the squad from Monday next week.
They further reported that the payout includes another one million dollars that the player can earn in form of benefits and incentives.
Following the confirmation by the team, the player spoke about the excitement over the prospects of playing for Bills.
He said:
"I am looking forward to playing with the guys and helping where I am needed. I have always respected the Bills organization and I am looking forward to being a part of the team."
Young spent the 2011 National Football League (NFL) season with the Philadelphia Eagles. However, he was unimpressive in his form.
Moreover, Bills confirmed that the player was taken on board for a backup position.
Bills’ general manager, Buddy Nix, who was leading the process of assessment of the player, said that hiring of the player was going to increase competition at the backup positions.
Nix said:
"We think adding Vince to our roster will create more competition for the backup quarterback position. He brings with him some unique physical abilities that most are aware of and that will make the competition interesting. It's all about improving our team."
Young, who started his career from the Tennessee Titans, had remained on and off at the starting position with the team, before they released him.
As reflective from Bills’ priorities, it looks very uncertain that he will have an opportunity on the starting line unless there is an unexpected change of plan.
So far, the player himself remains content with the situation, not much expressive of ambitions for the starting role.
