The 49-year-old tactician has expressed confidence ahead of his side’s upcoming English Premier League game against Southampton, and has insisted that his side has the quality to finish in the top half of the table.
Queens Park Ranger, who escaped relegation to Npower Championship on the final day of the 2011/12 season, have been struggling to compete in the English top flight this term as well.
With only four points from a possible of 36, QPR are currently sitting at the bottom of the league table, five points behind of the 17th placed, Aston Villa. Furthermore, the White City outfit have yet to register their first win of the new season.
Following their 1-0 defeat at the hands of Stoke City in their last English Premier League game on November 10, the club owner, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Tony-c35440 Fernandes, tweeted that his side’s next league game against Southampton is a must win for the club.
Fernandes’ tweet fuelled speculation over the future of the QPR head coach, Mark Hughes. However, the former Fulham boss has made it clear that the club owner’s tweet was not rightly portrayed by the media.
“I think it was said in a different context, but it has been picked up and labelled as much. We are just looking at it as a key Premier League game and a game we feel we can win. My expectation is that we will get the three points and we will start the long
road back because we have been in this position too many times”, Hughes said while talking to the media.
The 49-year-old tactician, who started his professional coaching career in the 1999/2000 season at http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Wales-c3041, went on to reveal that his side’s ambition is to finish in the top half of the league table, while expressing confidence that they can still achieve
this feat.
“Our hope was top half. I still think that is a possibility. Obviously we need to start winning quickly, and that is our intention at the weekend. But we feel we have the capacity and we feel teams above us will have periods when they will struggle, like
we have at the beginning”, Hughes concluded.
QPR will lock horns against Southampton at Loftus Road on Saturday, November 17.
