I'm writing a story about a very beautiful mexican paintress named Jamie ( her mom is from Missouri). Jamie decides to have a homebirth with midwife Sonia and had a boy after 25 hours of labor. Is 25 hours of labor a normal period during a homebirth?

Thank you!!!

  1. my first was 6 and a half hours, that was 8 days ago ! ive seen my sisters in labour for 52 hours... 14 hours is the average

  2. I was in labor for about 27 hours so that's a normal period of home birth.

  3. It totally depends! Some women are in labor for a couple of days. With my first it was about 12 hours, with the second it was 5 hours, I was in the hospital with both but the second was not induced in anyway and everything happened textbook-like (mucous plug, then water breaking, went to the hospital, contractions started... But 25 is very believable for your story! It just depends on the mom, or the baby hehe

  4. yes home or hospital its about right

  5. 25 hours without any medication to facilitate labor it is expected.

  6. It can last as little as you like....25 hours is possible also too....

It totally depends on the circumstances.

  7. How agonizing. I had 5 hours of painstaking back to back contractions right until birth. I will think twice before getting medically induced.

  8. Yes, with the first child, pretty much. That's counting from the very first contractions, when they're not that bad.

  9. 25 hours? is she going to have any problems stopping her from having a baby or is it a nice, peachy story? my first labour was 4 hours and the second was 1hour. Was told by midwife to expect around 7 - 11 hours for first baby (thats if everything went smoothly). depends how much detail you wanna go into. warm baths and showers can help ease the pain, plus these days, they try to encourage you to move around a lot during labour and did you know that when in labour, laying on your back is not the best position, a lot of mum-to-bes will fracture teir tailbone and it is more of an effort to get the baby out. Apparently King Henry used to enjoy watching his wives in pain and forced them to lay on their backs during labour. Horrid huh. Anyway, you have the internet go on to www.i-am-pregnant.com and a few other pregnancy sites, they always have personal experiences on there to read and you could get a few ideas. if you are going to write about something - best to get the facts. Good luck on your novel!!!!
