i have 4 q's:

1. is it okay to get my budgies using a towel??

- its hard to get my budgies using my hand.. they get really scared... if i use a towel will i scare them more? should i throw the towel to them before they fly? i am buying a cage.. a smaller cage so that i could bring them with me doing things around the house so i need to know how to handle them... pls answer...

2. what should i do in order to get rid of the lizard getting inside the cage?

- it really scares them...

3. how do i know if my hen is ready to breed?

4. am i forcing them?

- i removed a perch that is their "bridge" to get on to the platform above the door where i can't reach them.... then they are both on the perch near the corner and it is tiring for them to get on the platfrm so they can not anymore get there easily... it happens before.... so they are just there on the perch, i move my finger to them and they move a lot but since they can't go away they seem to be stuck whenever i corner them by my finger but they can fly to the other perch near their perch.. i am gently pushing their tummy and they get on to my finger but ASAP! they just walk over it and go to the other side of the perch... am i forcing them too much??? what should i do to make them step up???

4. are they fighting?

-my hen, sarah bites my c**k, sky the budgie, when my hen wants to eat and there's only one food bowl, my hen bites the other and the male seems so scared sometimes and he only has the chance to eat if my hen goes away.... are they fighting? what should i do????

thanks............................

pls tell me if u have any more tips on taming them.. i talk to them and being nice and trying to make them step up but they are scared...

pls tell the tips...

thanks a lot!!!!!!

  1. 1)yes it is okay to get your budgie using a small hand towel.

2)try putting the cage up higher, or in a room where there would be no lizard to get in the cage.

    3) hens are ready to breed after about a year, when they have their first molt.

4)sounds like you are forcing them... move the perch back to the original place.

5)they may be fighting or they might be bullying, or just a stressful time get another foodbowl. especially if they are getting nippy.

clip their wings to train... also you cannot be afraid of them biting you. it shows them that you are intimidated by it, and they become the boss. and spend a few hours a day with them outside of the cage, preferably in a small room where the cage is not in site

  2. 1: You should never grab your parakeets, if a parakeet is ever grabbed, it thinks that a predator is attacking it and it will be stressed out.  I highly suggest being VERY patient and slowly letting them adjust to getting used to your hand.

STEP ONE - TRUSTING THE HAND

In step one, you simply get your parakeet used to your hand being in the cage.  Slowly put your hand in the cage, but not near the parakeet and talk to it calmly until it gets used to your hand.

    STEP TWO - PERCH TRAINING

In step two, you train your parakeet to step up onto a perch on command.  Take a stick or a short perch and very slowly move it towards the parakeet talking to it calmly and say "up" when you press the perch against it's chest.

    STEP THREE - FINGER-PERCH TRAINING

In step three, you show your parakeet that it's OK to step on a perch that also has a finger attached to it. Put your finger right on the perch so that the parakeet will have to step up onto both your finger and the perch - Keep talking!

    STEP FOUR - FINGER TRAINING

In step four, still staying just in the cage, your parakeet learns that your finger is a safe perch to sit on. Swap the perch for your finger so that only your finger is available to step on.

STEP FIVE - OUT-OF-CAGE FINGER TRAINING

In step five, the parakeet learns that her trusted finger is safe to sit on, even if it's outside the cage.  Slowly bring the bird out of the cage while it's on your finger, be patient because it may take a while.

    --------------------------------------...

2:  I suggest getting a hook for your cage so that it's hanging above the ground and there is no way for the lizard to climb into the cage.

    --------------------------------------...

3:  There is a ton of information on how to breed parakeets here: http://www.lisashea.com/petinfo/articles...

Hens are sexually mature at 6 months but it's recommended that you wait till they are a year or older.

    --------------------------------------...

4: Put the perches back to how they were so it's more comfortable for the birds.  I already explained how to finger-train parakeets in the answer to question 1 :)

    --------------------------------------...

4(2): I highly suggest getting 2 feeding tubes and 2 water dishes so that they can both be eating at the same time in different places.  My parakeets used to fight over food before I had 2 food dishes and that solved the problem.  Also, parakeets do fight on occasion, they are the "Sparrows of Australia" so they have a pecking order.  Just give them time to work out the kinks.

    I hope I helped :)

  3. FIRST OF ALL...

USING A TOWEL WILL SCARE THEM EVEN MOREEEE. THEY HAVE TO GET USED TO UR HAND IN ORDER TO TRUST U.. U DON'T TRUST PEOPLE EASILY THEY DON'T EITHER. WHEN U DO CATCH THE BIRD HOLD THEM FOR 30 MINUTES SO THEY GET USED TO U.. DO THIS EVERY DAY AND EVENTUALLY BELIEVE ME THEY WILL BEGIN TO TRUST U. [[ I HAVE 2 QUAKER PARAKEETS ]]

    SECOND...

    UR MALE IS HUNGRYYYYYYYYYYY

ARE THEY THE SAME TYPE OF BIRDS? IF NOT YOUR GOING TO HAVE TO SEPARATE THEM BEFORE THEY KILL EACH OTHER WELL BEFORE YOUR HEN KILLS THE MALE. AND IF THEIR THE SAME SPECIE THEN JUST HOLD THE HEN UNTIL THE MALE EATS.. MY FEMALE PARAKEET DOES THE SAME THING SHE BOSSES MY MALE AROUND ALLL THE TIME.. SHE HAS TO GET EVERYTHING FIRST BEFORE HE DOES. SOO JUST HOLD HER WHEN HE WANTS TO EAT BECAUSE HES SCAREDDDDD. OR YOU CAN SAY NOO N TAP HER ON THE BEAK WITH UR FINGER [[NOT HARD JUST LIGHTLY LIKE YOUR TOUCHING HER]]..

LIZARD GETTING INTO THE CAGE? WHATTTTT??? YOU BETTER BE CAREFUL.

OHH AND YOUR HEN IS ABLE TO BREED WHEN SHES ABOUT 8 MONTHS OLD BUT DONT FORCE HER ITS ALWAYS BEST TO WAIT UNTIL SHES OVER 1.. THE VET TOLD ME THAT BUDGIES SHOULDNT BREED UNTIL THEIR 3.. BUT I CAUGHT MINE TRYING TO AND THEIR ONLY 8MONTHS OLD I STOPPED THEM OF COURSE BECAUSE THEIR BABIES THEMSELVES.

GOOD LUCK HUN.. OHH AND HERES A NUTRITION WEBSITE YOU CAN USE .. WHAT TO FEED THEM AND WHAT NOT TO..

    http://www.quakerparrots.com/diet/food-n...

OHH MORE MORE THING.. MAKE SURE THEIR CAGE IS AS BIG AS YOU CAN GET ONE BECAUSE THEY NEED ROOM TO MOVE AROUND.. AND I WOULD SUGGEST FOR U TO GET THEIR WINGS CLIPPED AND LET THEM OUT OF THEIR CAGE.. THEY WONT GO ANYWHERE.. IF YOU ALWAYS KEEP THEM INSIDE THEY'LL GET DEPRESSED AND BORED. MAKE SURE THEY HAVE TOYSSS AND ALWAYS SWITCH THEM AROUND..
