im 14 and im a virgin why do i have to get a pap smear to get some birth control for a period.

  1. You get a pap smear to check your cervix and to check for cancer. Your pediatrician can still preform the exam (mine did when I was 13 & needed to go on birth control). Its not the most comfortable thing but just relax.


  2. Before they start you on birth control they need to check for any cervical issues.  That way if you have some problems like abnormal bleeding they can be relatively sure that it's from the birth control and not from some undetected infection, precancerous cells, etc. If you have a normal pap test they can be sure that you don't have any of those things. ETA - not all infections are from sexual contact, so even though you're a virgin they need to check.

  3. a pap is to check your cervix. cervical cancer is one of the top causes of death in women. and the birth control is probably to regulate your period. although i'm 24 and have been on b/c since i was 16 and still have never had a regular period.
