consider solar cells produce electricity from sunlight, why doesnt everybody use solar cells to produce the eergy they want?

The cost or solar cells exceed the cost of buying electricity, so would you give food for lights?

High start up cost and long pay back period.   But then again, does anyone ever get a payback period from the power company?   When companies make enough money to build the manufacturing facilities they need to mass produce solar cells the price will fall and more people will buy them.   Right now there is a silicone shortage.   It takes lots of energy to refine silicone and make it into a high quality cristal but many facilities are being built in the hopes of cashing in on the shortage.   Unfortunately for them, cell producers have started finding other ways to make the cells without much or any silicone which will lower the prices for us even more.
